CIS achievement at Sub Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship

Venue: Panchvati, Nasik
Date: 12th September 2010 to 15th September 2010

The Sub Junior and Cadet National Fencing Championship was organized at Panchvati in Nasik (Maharashtra) from September 12th, 2010 to September 15th, 2010. The students of Chitkara International School (CIS) – Akaashdeep (grade 5), Kashish (grade 5) and Shubhjot (grade 5) also participated in the event. Kashish won a silver medal in the finals against Maharashtra in the Foil Event. Kashish performed valiantly and with lot of zealous at the Championship. Shubhjot and Akaashdeep reached till the quarter finals in the Fabre Event. The three students of Chitkara International School showed their mettle after 2 months of rigid and rigorous training under the guidance of the sports instructor Ms. Gurdeep Kaur of the school. The Principal of Chitkara International School Ms. Niyati Chitkara was extremely ecstatic and commented that for her participation in events is more essential than winning them. She praised the courage and the spirit with which the students participated in the event. The sponsors for the event were The Fencing Association of India (FAI), Maharashtra Fencing Association (MFA) and Nasik Fencing Association (NFA). Forty students from different schools were representing Chandigarh. The students were sponsored by ‘The Chandigarh Fencing Association’. A total of approximately 700 students of 22 states participated in the championship. This event had approximately 1000 spectators. The sport of fencing is a uniquely classic sport. It has history, drama, style, art, plus all the advantages of an active physically demanding sport. Mentally it is mind consuming, allowing not a moment's break. Fencing is played on a metal strip, or piste, which measures approximately 2 meters wide and 14 meters long. Fencing is one of the four sports which have been featured at every one of the modern Olympic Games. Currently, three types of weapon are used in Olympic fencing: Foil, Épée and Sabre.
