Middle School Program

Chitkara International School (CIS) provides a conducive learning programme presently available and designed for children in the middle school. Middle school teachers focus on lesson plans, classroom management, teaching ideas, testing strategies, extracurricular activities, and sports. Middle school students must have career education to make the effective transition to high school, and eventually college and/or work.

The core components of middle school are:

Literacy in English
Children vary in their interests and skills .Some takes initiative in self-reading in which less guidance is required. At this stage, we create such a situation in which self-directed reading and self-study is evolved in the students and the various skills like Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing – as well as Phonetics, are equally stressed upon.

Mathematics
Children will be placed in stimulating learning environment with the help of new software which focuses on learning the concepts than memorizing. Online worksheets that challenge and motivate the students will nurture and support their mathematical thinking. This environment is focused on helping children understand math concepts through interactive activities. Visualization of math concepts enables a child to relate to difficult concepts in math. This enhances the grasping capabilities of child and improves the memory. Learning should have utility and so it should be practical. The activities in Math Buddy have been modeled on real life situations. This helps child view math concepts as part of life and makes learning easier.

Science
Science is an enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and experimentation. This is done partly through observation of natural phenomena, but also through experimentation and research. Science is taught as a living body of knowledge in which the students are encouraged and guided to make exploratory forays of their own. Each concept is supported by everyday examples and numerous activities.

Science is divided into three units- Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
  • Physics covers a wide range of phenomena, from elementary to the largest super clusters of galaxies. Physics aims to connect the things observable to humans to root causes, and then to try to connect these causes together.

We use a scientific method to test the validity of a physical theory, using a methodical approach to compare the implications of the theory in question with the associated conclusions drawn from experiments and observations conducted to test it. This inspires the students to devise and perform experiments to test theoretical predictions and explore new phenomena.
  • Chemistry is more specialized, being concerned with the composition, behavior, structure, and properties of matter. The genesis of chemistry can be traced to certain practices, known as alchemy. Kids learn the concepts of general and introductory chemistry, with the aid of worked example problems, lecture notes, lab exercises, and quizzes.
  • Biology is a fascinating subject. Learning about life on Earth is fun. Biology is the study of life, what life needs to survive, what makes life possible, how life evolves and changes, and how life forms interact with one another.
Students explore and learn about the subject through observations, investigations and ideas which lead to scientific facts.

Social Science
Social Science is the study of human society and of individual relationships in and to society. Children can explore socio-cultural aspects of human behaviour. The books prescribed comply fully with the NCERT and follow the thematic approach.

Social Science is divided into three units-History, Civics and Geography.
  • History is an adventure. It is a journey across time and space. Students understand the past and develop important skills and qualities and enrich themselves by understanding the life of past people.
  • Civics gives an understanding to the students, what happens in the outside world to the classroom. The reality is portrayed along with an analysis of how we could move towards the ideal.
  • Geography inculcates creativity and initiative as we perceive and treat children as participants in learning, not as receivers of a fixed body of knowledge.
Technology:
In this they will learn about ever-changing technology, its demands and variable concepts. Technology will offer adolescents a bridge from concrete to abstract thinking enabling them to observe and create multiple representations and do wonders.

Hindi
The main Indian language of Hindi will be given equal importance and emphasis in the curriculum. Children will be reading and writing in Hindi, as well as be fluent in the language. Hindi would be taught through digital content for making the lessons innovative and interesting.

Other Languages
Apart from English and Hindi emphasis is also given to other languages like Punjabi and French in which the students learn steadily how to read, write and speak.
